2019 Exceptional Muslimah, Lailah Lea

Lailah Lea is a young woman who has exhibited motivation and a commitment to excellence at an early age. She was the valedictorian of the 8th grade graduating class of 2015 of Hatch Middle School in Camden, NJ. She also won a championship as a member of the Hatch girls basketball team. Lailah is now a graduate of the Camden County Technical School class of 2019, where she majored in Allied Health. She was awarded the highest grade point average two years in a row. Her activities during her high school years include being a historian of The National Honors Society and the President of the National Technical Honors Society.

Lailah was an honor student throughout her entire time in junior high and senior high school. She was accepted into the Rutgers Future Scholars program in 2013 as an exceptionally gifted student. After successfully completing the Rutgers Future Scholars program, Lailah was the recipient of a full academic scholarship and will be majoring in nursing. She is a member of the Islamic Social Services Youth Auxiliary and serves as the community relations coordinator, responsible for outreach, social media management, and arranging programs. Lailah has been nicknamed "Lailah the Leader" as she is known for always showing up and spearheading community projects such as feeding the homeless or planting trees. She is a true motivational mentor to her peers. Lailah received traditional Islamic training via Essential Islam, an online training course out of the United Kingdom and she is now a volunteer instructor of Islamic beliefs and Arabic at the Quba School and Islamic Center of Camden, NJ. She has done outstanding work in her academics, character building, and leadership.

Lailah continues to excel by remaining dedicated and devoted to education by transforming it into service to humanity. She is currently on call as a home health aide and she works as a certified nurse’s assistant at Virtua Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Camden, NJ as she continues her pursuit of higher education. Lailah is a bright and remarkable young lady who is a stellar example of what it means to achieve goals, believe in dreams, and work hard to bring them to fruition. She is the embodiment of what it means to be a representative of a woman of faith, conviction, and character. This young lady, one of whom we are proud to administer the 2019 Exceptional Muslimah Scholarship to, is none other than the amazing Lailah Lea!
